POLICY: Small classes, in which much individual help is given and hard work is demanded, combine with an adult environment to produce a sense of personal dignity and achievement. Older students increase in independence and with that comes an increase in accountability and a demand by the College that they produce the work expected of them.
TUITION: Homework is vital. The Principal inspects every student's attendance and homework regularly. Three times a year, students take examinations under GCSE conditions. Those who have difficulty in coping with examination pressures acquire examination technique and gain confidence in themselves. Teachers work hard and insist that students do the same.
DYSLEXIA: The College has a whole-school approach to teaching dyslexic students of average or above average ability. One to one teaching is given where needed. Students are encouraged to use computers for homework and coursework, touch typing is taught to all.
SPORT: A good range of sporting activities is provided including football, basketball, athletics and the use of the local leisure centres for swimming, gymnsatics, trampolining, fitness training; there is an annual 3 day course including abseiling, canoeing, rifle shooting, climbing, archery.
RE-TAKE COURSES: For many years Stowford has provided 1 year GCSE re-take courses.
LIAISON: The college welcomes close collaboration with parents. We urge you to discuss with the Principal the progress and future prospects of your son or daughter. Each year four formal reports are issued and there are two Parent/Teacher meetings and three meetings of 'Friends of Stowford'.
